I'm getting tired of lugging a 4/10 bassman around to casual short sessions to just screw around. I would like to get a small practice amp that I can take to mess around with. Sound is not that big of a deal, I have other stuff that I get the big sound out of. I want something convenient. I do the Rockabilly/ Jump blues style, so the last thing I need is overdrive. I would like onboard reverb of some sort. I would like something in the 15r or 25r fender frontman size and price range, but if I...

Got away from the typical Fender blackface cabinet since the investment value of the amp was destroyed with the cabinet. I like the way it came out. However, the bass channel is another story. I want to mod it to sound better with guitar. What I am looking for is a 59 tweed bassman sound and I want it to break up at lower volume. I bought them for about $100 each. They are all point to point wired and were built in the 50's and 60's. The ones I have, have similar tube lineups and sound a lot like black face era fender amps.
Bassman/bandmaster types looking for a great rig: I just dropped a Weber California 15 into an ancient cabinet that I'm running with my '68 bandmaster. With my Guild T-100D (franz p-90s) the sound is just phenomenal. Cali 15 is Weber's recreation of the JBL and gives a clean, massive response with all kinds of beautiful hi-lights across the spectrum. Liquid for arpeggios and a beautiful warmth for hand-muting. Presence like the Berlin Philharmonic. For anybody running 212's I recommend...

I'm pretty hip on amps (I build 'em myself), but I've come across quite a quandry - did anybody ever build a medium wattage (30 or so) true class A amp that was not a Vox? I know that Standel built some really cool ones, but they are extremely rare and expensive. The new Standel company sells boutique amps for 3 grand. There are lots of new class a amps out there, but I find it curious that to my knowledge there are no medium wattage vintage class A's. I know that the Gibson GA-5 and Fender...

I think that early Gibson amps are some of the best sounding for hollowbody guitars. They are generally not super bright sounding, so they might not cut it for rockabilly, but they are great for blues and jazz. The ones to avoid are the black tolex 1960s models with names like Saturn and Jupiter. Go for the 1950s or early 60s amps. GA-20 is equivelent to a tweed deluxe, 2x6v6 and a 12" speaker. Has a great tone when cranked. Don't overlook the GA-30, it is similar to the GA-20, but the...

I bought a Randall Delta II a couple a days ago, whatever that is, and it sounds great.
I just bought a nice 1970's Randall Delta II amp. I looks like a Fender Twin clone and it has that classic Fender tone. It has (4) 6L6 power tubes and 2 12-inch Alnico speakers. It has two separate channels, one with reverb and tremolo; and four inputs.
